Niger is the Worst Place in the World to Be a Mother

Save the Children's 13th State of the World's Mothers report shows Niger as the worst place to be a mother in the world - replacing Afghanistan for the first time in two years. The Best and Worst Places to Be a Mom ranking, which compares 165 countries around the globe, looks at factors such as a mother's health, education and economic status, as well as critical childhood indicators such as health and nutrition. Norway is ranked as the best place to be a mom, while the United States ranks 25th.

In the USA and other parts of the world, we celebrate mothers in a crescendo of heartfelt messages of warmth and love, breakfasts in bed and a retail and advertising extravaganza for flowers and chocolate.
