It’s the perfect time of year for ice cream, and Ben & Jerry’s has come out with a new flavor with a cause. Save Our Swirled (yes, that’s SOS) has been released in hopes of raising awareness of climate change.
Ben & Jerry’s is not new to activism, particularly for the planet. In 2002 the company initiated a carbon offsets program for its manufacturing facilities in Vermont, and in 2008 partnered with the Dave Matthews Band in a global warming prevention campaign.
An article (and great short video) from Mashable describes a new partnership between Ben & Jerry’s and global activism group, Avaaz. The two groups are working together to encourage people to sign a petition for effective action on climate change when diplomats meet in Paris in December of this year.
The message, about the ice cream and the earth, is clear: “If it’s melted, it’s ruined.”
For those wondering, Save Our Swirled is raspberry ice cream with marshmallow and raspberry swirls, with dark and white fudge ice cream cones!
