I’m Not a Parent, but Global Moms Challenge Means the World to Me

December 14, 2015

Hello Global Moms, my name is Angie McPherson. I joined the Global Moms Challenge team a month ago, and I wanted to take a moment to introduce myself to you.

Last week I sat on an airplane home from Paris, in a state of pure joy and gratitude. Only one month into my new role at the United Nations Foundation, I was selected to help represent the organization at the Earth To Paris event.

Before the event started, the digital team posed for a photo in front of the step and repeat. I’m on the far right in a pink scarf.

Earth To Paris was a personal and professional mission for me to support the work of the UN at the climate conference. In recent months, the challenges the world faces in terms of mitigating our human impact have become a personal call for me to help change the world for the better. As I reflected on this, I began to think about the Global Moms community.

What does the Global Moms Challenge community mean to me? The more I thought about it, the more I realized the potential this community has to make a substantial impact on the world.

I am not a parent, but one day I would like to start a family. By being a member of this community, I believe I have an opportunity to create the kind of world I would like my future children to live in.

My husband Alastair snapped this picture of me on a hike around Meadow Wood Stables in Lorton, Virginia.

To me this community represents a group of people who may or may not be parents, but who all care about the future of this planet and the kind of world our next generation will be raised in.

I believe that together we can help to teach and inspire the children in our lives about the world and the challenges facing them. I’d like to do my best this year to bring this kind of information to you.

To help us do this better, it would be great to know more about you. How did you learn about Global Moms and what does it mean to you?

Let me know, I’d love to hear from you! Please feel free to email me, write a comment on this post, or start a conversation with me on Twitter. It’s wonderful to meet you all and I look forward being a part of this community.
