First-Ever Families +SocialGood Convenes Advocates, Celebrities, and Global Leaders in London to Unite for Global Change
Hosted by the UN Foundation and Johnson & Johnson, the event will draw attention to challenges facing families worldwide, and is the third and final in the series of +SocialGood events, part of the Global Moms Relay
London, UK – 25 May, 2017
Just before Father’s Day, hundreds of advocates, celebrities, global leaders, and families from all walks of life will gather on 15 June, 2017, in London to share ideas, exchange best practices, and inspire action for a healthy planet and happy families.
Following the incredible success of Moms +SocialGood and Dads +SocialGood, the first-ever Families +SocialGood is a one-day event focused on the power of families to create a better future for themselves and their communities. Hosted by the UN Foundation and Johnson & Johnson, and supported by BabyCenter, Global Citizen, Fatherly, and Charity Miles, the event is a major milestone in the quest to empower mothers, fathers, and families to work together toward a healthier future for all.
Through livestreamed panel discussions and fireside chats, and an online global conversation, Families +SocialGood will also explore the role of social media and philanthropy in boosting the wellbeing of families.
The world is confronting pressing global challenges:
- We are facing the largest humanitarian crisis since the end of World War II. Over 128 million people are in need of humanitarian aid and natural disaster response, including food, shelter, and health care.
- Climate change poses an increasingly looming threat to the physical and mental health of families, their economic opportunities, and their livelihoods.
- Non-communicable diseases such as heart attacks, strokes, cancer, and diabetes are on the rise and result in 70 percent of the world’s deaths.
- While the world is closer than ever to eradicating polio, infectious diseases such as Ebola, Zika, measles, and influenza still threaten communities. Resources, innovation, and international cooperation are needed to eliminate them.
The effects of these global challenges can be felt from the United Kingdom to countries around the world, and families are on the front lines of solutions for these pressing issues to build a better future for all.
Hosted at The Brewery, Families +SocialGood will highlight these critical challenges and offer solutions from hundreds of passionate advocates and leaders striving for change. The event will culminate in a screening of Unseen Enemy, CNN’s award winning documentary about the front lines of the fight against epidemics such as Ebola and Zika.
“In this critical time, there is nothing more important than working together to ensure our families and communities are more resilient,” said Kathy Calvin, President & CEO of the UN Foundation. “Because of the support of Johnson & Johnson, anyone can tune in to this important conversation and hear the latest groundbreaking ideas and innovative solutions on how we can create lasting global change.”
“At Johnson & Johnson, we believe that health is at the heart of human progress,” said Michael Sneed, Worldwide Vice President, Global Corporate Affairs & Chief Communication Officer of Johnson & Johnson. “Through our decades of experience working with partners on-the-ground to address critical issues, we know that engaging and educating families is key to building healthy generations. These experiences led us to create Families +SocialGood. It’s an opportunity to rally the world together to help make a real impact.”
Families +SocialGood builds on a movement that has reached over 100 million people in six of seven continents over the last five years, and it will leverage the power of social media to connect these passionate experts, advocates and parents with others around the world, making it a truly global event. It is the last in a series of three livestreamed events in 2017 including Moms +SocialGood on 4 May and Dads +SocialGood on 13 June in New York, and concludes the Global Moms Relay, a six-week long digital storytelling and fundraising campaign that celebrates the lifesaving work of Girl Up, UNICEF USA, UNFPA, Shot@Life, and Nothing But Nets.
